July 24, 2023
ATLANTA, GA (July 21, 2023): 19-year-old Noni Battiste-Kosoko was found dead at the Atlanta Detention Center on July 11, 2023 where she had been held since May 20th for a misdemeanor bench warrant.
Her family says that she had no known medical conditions that explain her sudden death. Autopsy results are pending from the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Rod Edmond, M.D., J.D., managing partner at the law firm Edmond & Lindsay, LLC, is a long-time friend of Noni’s family. On behalf of the family, Dr. Edmond requests privacy for the family at this time. The family is intent on getting answers and complete transparency surrounding Noni’s mysterious death.
Dr. Edmond states, “Our law firm is committed to uncovering all the facts surrounding this shocking and unfortunate occurrence. If it is discovered that this young lady’s death is the fault of those who were responsible for her care, they will be held accountable.”
This latest tragedy occurs as the Fulton County Jail and the Atlanta Detention Center have been under intense scrutiny for questions about lack of care, supervision, and security for jail inmates.
The U.S. Department of Justice has initiated a sweeping investigation into jail conditions throughout Georgia and Fulton County jails in particular.
Noni Battiste-Kosoko’s death comes nearly 1 year after Lashawn Thompson’s death at the Fulton County Jail in September 2022. Thompson’s cell was infested with bedbugs and trash, and an autopsy concluded Thompson died from severe neglect.
Rod Edmond, M.D., J.D., Keith Lindsay, Esq., Sho Watson, Esq. and Edmond & Lindsay, LLP are representing the family in this case. All press inquiries should be directed to Attorney Sho Watson at 404.525.1080 or swatson@edmondfirm.com.
