Associate Attorney
Practice Areas:
- Medical Malpractice
- Wrongful Death
- Complex Civil Litigation
Shannon Young is an associate attorney at The Edmond Firm, where her practice focuses on medical malpractice, wrongful death, and other complex civil litigation. She brings a unique blend of experience in law, healthcare, and public service. Her background spans public health, pharmacy, and litigation, and she is driven by a deep commitment to justice, equity, and advocacy for underserved communities.
Shannon’s path to the law was shaped by her firsthand experiences with systemic inequities in healthcare. After earning her Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, she worked as a consultant pharmacist, where she encountered disparities disproportionately affecting marginalized populations. Her prior service as a U.S. Army medic further fueled her commitment to public service and sparked a passion for advocacy. Recognizing the intersection between law and health, she transitioned into legal practice to address the structural and legal determinants of health disparities.
Shannon began her legal studies at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School before graduating cum laude from Georgia State University College of Law. While at Georgia State, she earned the Charity Scott Health Law Award and completed certificates in both Health Law and Public Interest with distinction. She was also selected for the Community Health Leadership Program at Morehouse School of Medicine, where she focused on environmental justice and health equity. Her academic accomplishments were recognized through scholarships from the Gate City Bar Association and the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys.
During law school, Shannon emerged as a leader and advocate, encouraging her peers to engage with the intersection of public health, racial justice, and policy reform. She served as Chair and Social Action Director of the Southern Region of the National Black Law Students Association (SRBLSA) and later joined its Alumni Advisory Board. Most notably, she co-founded the ACLU–NBLSA Southern Legal Internship Program, which places law students in ACLU affiliate offices across the South to gain hands-on experience in civil rights litigation and policy work. The program has since become a model for values-driven professional development and legal pipeline building, and remains her proudest professional accomplishment.
Shannon has continued to prioritize community and service throughout her legal career. She previously served as an Assistant Solicitor in Gwinnett County, where she was recognized for her professionalism, objectivity, and fairness. She also worked with the CDC’s Public Health Law Program as a contractor Public Health Analyst, where her portfolio included maternal health, health disparities, and the legal framework surrounding structural racism.
Shannon is licensed to practice in all Georgia state courts, the Georgia Court of Appeals, the Supreme Court of Georgia, and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. She is a graduate of GABWA’s Professional Development Academy, Gate City Bar Association's L.E.A.D Academy, and has been recognized as a member of the National Bar Association’s Centennial Class of 40 Under 40 and as SRBLSA’s Alumni of the Year.
Shannon’s diverse background in healthcare and law provides her with a comprehensive perspective on legal matters. Her commitment to addressing racial injustice and advancing the well-being of underserved communities is central to her practice. She is a dedicated advocate for clients navigating complex legal challenges, and her work reflects her passion for health equity and justice.
Beyond her role as an Associate for the Edmond Firm, Shannon serves on the Gate City Bar Association Executive Committee as Member at Large, the State Bar of Georgia Young Lawyers Division Representative Council, and she is also the inaugural Chair of the Gate City Bar Young Lawyers Division. Shannon is committed to bridging service and advocacy in every aspect of her work.
